MISSY SUICIDE:  Oh yeah, we’re really big fans of helping out and giving back. The Wolf Sanctuary is more than deserving.

Signed Books

Been awhile since we updated the Signed Books page for the Jean Cocteau, but we’re finally starting to get caught up. Which means that some of the titles we’ve featured in our more recent author events are (at last!) available for mail order.

That includes two of my own titles — A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS and the coloring book — as well as Andy Weir’s movie tie-in edition of THE MARTIAN.

All three titles can now be ordered from the JCC bookstore at http://www.jeancocteaubooks.com/ — along with books from Dennis Lehane, Diana Gabaldon, Melinda Snodgrass, Steve Stirling, Junot Diaz, Anne Perry, Trent Zelazny, Steve Gould, and many more.

More titles forthcoming, so check back soon.

Suicide Girls

Just a reminder… the next big event at the JCC will be Monday night, when the Suicide Girls arrive in town with their Blackheart Burlesque show.

<lj-embed id=”621″/>

As of about ten minutes ago, my loyal minions inform me that fewer than twenty tickets remain for the performance… so if you want to join us, I’d suggest you snag some advance tickets now, or else you risk being left out in the cold on Monday night.

(And it is getting cold in Santa Fe. But it will be hot inside the theatre).

Cocteau Author Events

We had a great time Tuesday night at the Jean Cocteau. Melinda Snodgrass handled the interview task, with me as the subject, and did a wonderful job. Sellout crowd, and of course I signed a lot of books — DOWN & DIRTY, KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, and the new coloring book.

((Autographed copies of all three will soon be available from the JCC website)).

Next up, in November…

DEBORAH HARKNESS returns on November 8, to sign THE BOOK OF LIFE.

And two days later, on November 10, we’ll have a launch for the WHEEL OF TIME companion.

Books and seats for both events can be reserved on our website. Do remember, our last three author events sold out… and we do hate turning people away at the door, so reserve your place soon.

Coming to the Cocteau

We have some great stuff coming to the Jean Cocteau Cinema in the weeks to come.

Starting this weekend, when we’ll be showing the classic BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

<lj-embed id=”617″/>

Come Tuesday, we’ll have another author event, this time featuring… yes, ME.

A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS came out October 6 and has been riding high on the lists. And Tuesday October 27 is the official release date for both Bantam’s official ICE AND FIRE adult coloring book, and Tor’s reissue of Wild Cards volume five, DOWN & DIRTY.

All three titles will be available for sale at the JCC. MELINDA SNODGRASS will be on hand as well, to interview me. A question-and-answer will follow, and then I will adjourn to the lobby to sign books (but no personalizations, sorry). However, tickets are already half-gone for this one, and we anticipate another sellout… so if you want to join us, contact the theatre (by phone or via our website) and reserve a book and a place now.

Come Halloween weekened, we’ll be showing something old and something new… ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (with a live performance by Rocky Horror New Mexico) and THE CREEPING GARDEN, a film about… wait for it… SLIME MOLD. (Where else but the JCC?)

<lj-embed id=”618″/>

Tickets to all of these events can be bought on the JCC website: http://www.jeancocteaucinema.com/

November is looking pretty cool as well, with author events coming up for DEBORAH HARKNESS and the WHEEL OF TIME COMPANION, and burlesque with the SUICIDE GIRLS.

See you at the Cocteau!

The Martian…

… will be at the Jean Cocteau on Monday, in the person of Andy Weir. We’ll be talking about his novel, and the movie, and he’ll be signing books.

Only a few tickets left. If you’d like to attend, reserve yours now.

ADDENDUM: Sorry, slowpokes. Jon has just informed me that the Andy Weir event is SOLD OUT. ((Don’t say I didn’t warn you)).

Our next author event will be… hey, ME… on October 27. Followed by Deborah Harkness on November 8. Watch the Cocteau website for details. I expect those events to sell out as well, so be prepared to pounce as soon as tickets are available.

Cocteau Website Back Up

For various complex reasons that I won’t go into (mainly because I don’t actually understand them, being semi-literate where computers are concerned), the Jean Cocteau website has been down for a couple of days. But I am pleased to say that I just checked, and it’s back up.

http://www.jeancocteaucinema.com/

Yay, Raya. Round of applause, please.

This means that, yes, once again you can buy online tickets to the Wes Craven Retrospective that we are presently screening, to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s streaming performance of OTHELLO from Old Blighty, and reserve books (and seats) for Andy Weir’s visit a week from tomorrow (which looks as if it its going to sell out, by the way).

Also, for all you autograph hounds out there, let me draw your attention to our Signed Books page. All the books we sell are autographed, and we’ve had some great authors passing through of late. So, while supplies last, we have signed copies of titles from Elln Datlow, Steven Gould, Joe Lansdale, Melinda M. Snodgrass, Felicia Day, S.M. Stirling, Dennis Lehane, Anne Perry, William Gibson, and many many others.

((FYI, some of the titles — like THE CHANGE and THE DOLL COLLECTION — have multiple signatures, including some of the contributors as well as the editor)).

Oh, and of course, we also have a bunch of titles by that GRRM guy. We expect to be offering hardcovers of A KNIGHT OF SEVEN KINGDOMS as well, though they’re not up yet. Soon.

The Martian Is Coming

No, not the movie (curse you, Fox). The writer.

We had a great evening last night with William Gibson, but at the Jean Cocteau we like to keep the big nights coming… so we’re bringing in ANDY WEIR on October 19 for a reading, a talk, and a booksigning.

We’re not being allowed to show the film (but you can catch it down the street with our friends at the Violet Crown), but we’ll have plenty of copies of the novel on hand, and Andy will be here to scrawl in them and answer all your questions about book, movie, and planet.

And hey, I will be there as well, so all you Martians can also pick up a signed copy of OLD MARS, if you like, and maybe an OLD VENUS for good measure.

Andy Weir is one of the few SF writers I’ve yet to meet, so I am really looking forward to hosting him at the Jean Cocteau. The fun starts at 7pm. Reserve your book and your ticket at our website, and come join us.

Cyberpunk Comes to Santa Fe

Hugo- and Nebula-winning author William Gibson, the father of cyberpunk and author of NEUROMANCER, will be coming to Santa Fe tomorrow night (October 6) for a reading, Q&A, and booksigning at the Jean Cocteau Cinema.

Bill will be signing copies of his latest novel, THE PERIPHERAL. Admission is free with the purchase of a hardcover book, $5 with the purchase of a paperback, and $10 sans book purchase.

Reserve your copy and your seat at the Cocteau website http://www.jeancocteaucinema.com/ or by phoning the theatre at 505-466-5528.

The event starts at 7:00 pm.

See you there.

Alas, alack… I’ve just been informed that work on the mural installation is going much more slowly than anticipated.

Which means we’ll need to cancel the big unveiling scheduled for this afternoon, and the reception that was the follow.

We may reschedule when the mural’s done. Or not. Depends on how long that takes.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.

The best laid plans of mice and men…
