From Brazil, With Love

LeYa, my Brazilian publisher, and a small army of my Brazilian readers sent me this video as a birthday greeting:

I don’t know what to say. I am astonished. Charmed. Flattered. And maybe just a little bit terrified.

I really do need to make it down to Brazil one of these days.

(And they used one of my favorite songs, too).

For My German Fans

The German edition of A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, my Dunk & Egg collection, came out several years ago, from my main German publisher. Nice book, and it did well.

Thing is, though, my German publishers wanted to get the book out as soon as possible, so they published before the American and British editions, which meant that their edition could not include any of Gary Gianni’s gorgeous interior illustrations.

Have no fear, though. My favorite German small press, FanPro, has come to the rescue. They’ve issued a new, limited edition German hardcover edition, with all the amazing artwork.

Copies are available by mailorder from FanPro’s online shop:

They do beautiful books. Enjoy.

Another Precinct Heard From

Just signed contracts with TEAS Press for Azerbaijani editions of A Song of Ice and Fire. A first for me.

This marks the forty-seventh different language that Ice & Fire has been translated into. Not half bad. And moving in on the half-century mark.

Makes me wonder how many living languages we have on the planet at the moment. Not counting Klingon and Dothraki and other fictional tongues.

More Cool Wild Cards Stuff

YouTube has a cool "making of" video for the German Wild Cards book trailer:

The most interesting thing about this is that it seems to feature characters who do appear in the actual trailer itself:

This suggests that there may be more trailers out there somewhere that I haven't found… or perhaps coming in future.

Either way, it's intriguing.

Banned In Turkey

It appears that GAME OF THRONES has been corrupting the morals of the Turkish military:

Season 4… in Spain

Canal +, which broadcasts A GAME OF THRONES in Spain, has done some interesting and unusual TV spots for season four.

I thought you folks might like a look at them, even if (like me) you don't speak any Spanish.

Pretty cool, I thought.

Aces Take Russia

The first three volumes of the Wild Cards series were published in Russia back in 2005-2006. . . but that was as far as the series went, no doubt to the frustration of our Russian readers.

But after a long hiatus, the aces and jokers are returning once more to Russia, I am delighted to report. The first three volumes have already been reissued, with nifty new eye-catching covers featuring the artwork of D. Borozdina. And our Russian publisher is about to release volume four, ACES ABROAD.

That’s another Borozdina cover, this one featuring Fortunato. Who has never looked more kickass.

Even if you don’t speak Russian, this one’s worth getting for the cover alone.

Russian editions of volumes five, six, and seven are scheduled to follow. After that, well, it all depends on sales… but then, what doesn’t?

Golden Boy Comes to Brazil

My Brazilian publisher LeYa is moving like lightning in their plans to bring the entire Wild Cards saga to my fans in Brazil (and Roger Zelazny’s fans and Howard Waldrop’s fans and Carrie Vaughn’s fans and Daniel Abraham’s fans and Walter Jon Williams’s fans and the fans of the other thirty-odd writers who have been and continue to be a part of Wild Cards).

LeYa has hired the amazing Marc Simonetti to paint the covers for their editions. Marc’s work is well known to my Ice & Fire readers, of course, since he did this year’s official Ice & Fire calendar.

Here’s the cover of the first volume of the Brazilian WILD CARDS, featuring Jack Braun, aka Golden Boy, the strongest man in the Wild Cards universe.

I’ve seen Marc’s roughs for the covers of ACES HIGH and JOKERS WILD, and those are pretty cool as well.

Here’s a fun addendum. Marc has uploaded of video of the process of bringing Golden Boy to life:

Wild Cards To Brazil

My fantasy novels have been doing very well in Brazil, thanks in no small part to my wonderful publisher LeYa and some gorgeous Marc Simonetti covers… and now my Brazilian readers will have the chance to sample my other long-running series as well. WILD CARDS is coming to Brazil.

I am thrilled to announce that I’ve just signed a deal with LeYa for Brazilian (Portugese) editions of the entire Wild Cards series, all twenty-two volumes, from the original WILD CARDS to the still-in-progress LOWBALL.

I couldn’t be happier, and my Wild Cards compatriots and contributors are doing cartwheels. I hope my Brazilian fans will enjoy reading about Jetboy, the Turtle, Dr. Tachyon, Bugsy, Yeoman, Curveball, Golden Boy, Capn Trips, Rustbelt, IBT, the Sleeper, Oddity, and the rest of the Wild Cards gang as much as we’ve enjoyed writing about ’em.

(And yes, I know, one of these days I must go down and visit Brazil. I’d love to, really. Just a matter of finding the time. Maybe some year for Carnival, I hear that’s pretty wild).
