Ned, Sam, and the Crow’s Eye

Dark Sword has posted some great painted versions of their latest trio of Ice & Fire pewter miniatures, and I thought I’d share them.

Here’s Lord Eddard Stark. (No, he doesn’t look like Sean Bean. We’re not allowed to make him look like Sean Bean. These are based on the books, not the TV show). Sculpt by Tom Meier, painting by Matt Verzani.

And here’s young Samwell Tarly, Sam the Slayer his own self, with obsidian dagger in hand. Paint by Matt Verzani, sculpt by Tom Meier. (We’re casting Sam right now for the TV show. Two excellent young actors stand out above the rest. A damned hard choice).

Last — but definitely not least — comes Euron Greyjoy, the Crow’s Eye, Lord of Pyke and King of the Iron Islands, with his hellhorn in hand. Sculpt by Jeff Grace, paint by Matt Verzani.

All these miniatures, and many more, are available at your favorite gaming store, or direct from Dark Sword via their website: http://darkswordminiatures.com/ Of course, you’ll have to paint ’em yourself. Sorry, Matt Verzani not included.

Dark Sword Miniatures has been rolling along merrily this past year with their range of pewter miniatures from A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. Tom Meier and Jeff Grace have turned out some fabulous sculpts, and in recent months Dark Sword has released gorgeous minis of Sansa and her snow castle, Arya with her sword, Lady Catelyn, Brienne, the Mountain and the Red Viper in their famous duel, Robb Stark, and many more.

Two years ago, in February 2008, I ran a poll here, so you could let Dark Sword and me know which characters you wanted to see next. The four winners — Tyrion, Robb, Brienne, and the Red Viper — have now all been produced. So have runners-up Catelyn Stark and Asha Greyjoy, and figures of Samwell Tarly and Shae are in the works.

So it’s time for another poll. Let us know which characters you’d like to see Dark Sword do next, and we will do our damndest to get them in the queue.

The poll will follow.

To get a painted version for your shelf, you either need to pick up the brushes your own self, or hired one of the many talented painting services out there.

Marvelous Miniatures

Just wanted to share some more of the wonderful Ice & Fire miniatures from Dark Sword.

First, some lovely painted versions of Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne, and Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain That Rides, dueling for the life of Tyrion Lannister. Tom Meier did the sculpts, and Matt Verzani painted these for the Dark Sword studio collection.

Prince Oberyn:

The Mountain:

The Duel:

Tom is always so exacting about scale and size with his sculpts; I love how this pairing brings home Ser Gregor’s monstrous size in such a vivid and visceral way. And of course Matt has done a wonderful job with the paint, as always.

And while Matt’s been busy with his brush, Tom has been sculpting up a storm in his studio, and we have some great new greens to add to the range. These aren’t in production yet, but look for them soon.

Here’s Arya:

And Sansa:

Lady Catelyn:

And a personal favorite, Sansa building her snow castle at the Eyrie:

Here’s the latest greens from Dark Sword Miniatures for their Ice & Fire range — the long-awaited pair of Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain That Rides, and Prince Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne, dueling to determine the guilt or innocence of Tyrion Lannister on the charge of regicide.

The sculpts are by Tom Meier, the one and only. Amazing work, as always.

You can see a lot more pictures on Dark Sword’s website at http://darkswordminiatures.com/ Ser Gregor will also come with an alternate arm and head (sans helmet), so you can work him up as you see fit. He was helmetless when he faced his brother Sandor during the Tournament of the Hand, so a second diorama could easily be made with Mountain and Hound.

Tom is now busy sculpting Brienne.

Greyjoys, By Grace

Here are the two latest additions to Dark Sword’s range of Ice and Fire miniatures.

Victarion Greyjoy, admiral of the Iron Fleet.

And here’s his little brother, the priest Aeron “Damphair” Greyjoy.

Both sculpts are from the talented hands of Jeff Grace. Jeff has previously done figures of Theon Greyjoy and his sister Asha. Be the first kid on your block to collect all the krakens.

For more pictures, visit the Dark Sword website at http://darkswordminiatures.com/

Next up will be Tom Meier, with sculpts from the Red Viper of Dorne and the Mountain That Rides fighting their famous duel. Look for them in about a week.

For the miniature collectors out there, Dark Sword has four more figures in the pipeline for our Ice & Fire range — gorgeous greens of Aeron Damphair and his brother Victarion from Jeff Grace, and spectacular sculpts of the Mountain That Rides and the Red Viper of Dorne in their famous duel, from Tom Meier. Watch this space for pictures, coming soon.

Meanwhile, to hold you for a while, here’s the latest wonder painted for me by Jen Haley: a crossbowman’s pavise in 54mm scale.
