Game of Thrones Wins a Hugo!

Season 1 of HBO’s Game of Thrones won this year’s Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form. The Hugos are an esteemed set of awards given annually for the best fantasy or science fiction works from the previous year. This year’s Hugo awards ceremony was held over Labor Day weekend in Chicago during Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention. George R. R. Martin and Ron Donachie accepted the award on behalf of HBO.
Game of Thrones faced impressive competition for this year’s award. The Hugo nominees for 2012 in this category were:
* Game of Thrones (Season 1), created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss; written by David Benioff, D. B. Weiss, Bryan Cogman, Jane Espenson, and George R. R. Martin; directed by Brian Kirk, Daniel Minahan,Tim van Patten,and Alan Taylor (HBO)
* Hugo, screenplay by John Logan; directed by Martin Scorsese (Paramount)
* Captain America: The First Avenger, screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephan McFeely; directed by Joe Johnston (Marvel)
* Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, screenplay by Steve Kloves; directed by David Yates (Warner Bros.)
* Source Code, screenplay by Ben Ripley; directed by Duncan Jones
Congratulations to HBO, David Benioff, D.B Weiss, the amazing cast and crew, and George R.R. Martin! A big Thank You to HBO for doing such a good job of envisioning George’s ICE AND FIRE series.
A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin was also up for a Hugo award this year, in the Best Novel category. A distinguished and talented group of writers vied for this award:
