The Young Wolf’s Ride(BEWARE OF SPOILERS BELOW)I met Matteo Bocci at the Lucca Game & Comics Show in Italy, where he was kind enough to give me an unfinished copy of his illustration, "The Ride of the Young Wolf." This is the final version. Matteo writes, "I'm an Italian fan of your astonishing works... Your saga is one of my favourites ever, so I really hope you may like this little graphic homage to your great story.... one of my favourite characters in your epic is the unfortunate Eddard Stark. The episode of his execution made me very sad for him and in a certain sense “near” to him like I was to the heroes of the fables when I was a child. As you can imagine I love the House Stark, so I hoped that Robb Stark could have the opportunity to avenge his father and eventually kill the venomous little bastard Joffrey Lannister. I began to draw this illustration before reading about the death of the Young Wolf in A Storm of Swords. Well, it seems that you are killing all my favourite characters , but the chapter in which Robb and Catelyn both die shocked me for its extreme beauty and cruelty and it was since a long time ago that I did not cry reading a book . . . Well, maybe I'm too sentimental, but after all I should have known that Winter is coming . . ." Matteo does not have a website as yet, but he would welcome emails about his artwork at lancelot.kane@libero.it. |
