{"id":9387,"date":"2024-11-10T08:47:51","date_gmt":"2024-11-10T15:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=9387"},"modified":"2024-11-09T21:48:13","modified_gmt":"2024-11-10T04:48:13","slug":"london-towne-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2024\/11\/10\/london-towne-2\/","title":{"rendered":"London Towne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London was the third stop on our summer travels, as July turned to August.<\/p>\n<p>The first time I visited London was way back in 1981.\u00a0\u00a0 That was also the first time I left the USA, except for the time I went to Canada for the Toronto worldcon in 1993; I was over in the UK for six weeks on that first trip, traveling everywhere from Scotland to Cornwall, on the theory that if I was going to cross that great big ocean, I might as well see everything there was to see. \u00a0 I did not even come close, needless to say, but I loved what I did see&#8230; well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it.\u00a0 But it could be so much fun.\u00a0\u00a0 And we swung by Locke &amp; Co, Hatters, the oldest hat shop in the UK, where Winston Churchill used to get his headware, and we bought some hats.\u00a0 (What else?)<\/p>\n<p>A splendid few days, all in all, but of course the time went by too fast, and it was time to move on.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford was waiting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London was the third stop on our summer travels, as July turned to August.
