{"id":8615,"date":"2024-03-13T19:16:30","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T01:16:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=8615"},"modified":"2024-03-13T19:16:30","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T01:16:30","slug":"the-chickens-are-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2024\/03\/13\/the-chickens-are-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"The Chickens Are Coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Howard Waldrop is gone, but his work will live on.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve completed work on two more short films, based on a couple of Howard&#8217;s best stories (he wrote so many, it was very hard to choose).<\/p>\n<p>You can find the trailer for MARY-MARGARET ROAD GRADER several posts down.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s the latest one, an adaptation of Howard&#8217;s most famous story, THE UGLY CHICKENS.\u00a0 Winner of the Nebula.\u00a0\u00a0 Winner of the World Fantasy Award.\u00a0\u00a0 Nominee for the Hugo, but, alas, not a winner.\u00a0\u00a0 A pity, that.\u00a0 Howard never won a Hugo, but in some more Waldropian\u00a0 world he has ten of them lined up on his mantle.<\/p>\n<p>Felicia Day (SUPERNATURAL, THE GUILD, DR. HORRIBLE&#8217;S SING ALONG BLOG) stars in our film of &#8220;that dodo story.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 Mark Raso (COPENHAGEN, KODACHRONE) directed.\u00a0\u00a0 Michael Cassutt (TWILIGHT ZONE, MAX HEADROOM, TV101, EERIE INDIANA, and many more) did the screenplay.<\/p>\n<p>Howard saw a rough cut of the film before he died.\u00a0\u00a0 He liked it, which pleases me no end.\u00a0\u00a0 I only wish we had been able to screen the final cut for him.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, here&#8217;s our trailer.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TUC trailer 4K\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PJm_LYfQJW8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re taking THE UGLY CHICKENS and MARY-MARGARET ROAD GRADER out on the film festival circuit, as we did with NIGHT OF THE COOTERS before them.\u00a0\u00a0 Don&#8217;t know yet when and where you will be able to see them &#8212; that depends on the festivals &#8212; but watch this space, and I will be sure to let you know where the films are playing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Howard Waldrop is gone, but his work will live on.
