{"id":6892,"date":"2021-03-04T14:12:09","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T21:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=6892"},"modified":"2021-03-05T12:36:36","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T19:36:36","slug":"gray-alys-on-the-silver-screen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2021\/03\/04\/gray-alys-on-the-silver-screen\/","title":{"rendered":"Gray Alys on the Silver Screen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I cannot seem to keep out of the news these days.<\/p>\n<p>The latest story to break:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/milla-jovovich-paul-w-s-anderson-in-the-lost-lands-dave-bautista\/\">https:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/milla-jovovich-paul-w-s-anderson-in-the-lost-lands-dave-bautist<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/milla-jovovich-paul-w-s-anderson-in-the-lost-lands-dave-bautista\/\">a\/\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the Lost Lands&#8221; was one of my earliest fantasy stories (most of my work in the 70s was science fiction), the first tale of the mysterious Gray Alys, an enigmatic sorceress who would sell you anything you might desire&#8230; though her customers soon learned that you buy from her at your peril.\u00a0\u00a0 No doubt my long-time fans all recall the twelve classic tales I wrote about Gray Alys and her customers, which were later collected in the&#8230;.. WHOA, WHOA, wait a second.\u00a0\u00a0 That&#8217;s all wrong.\u00a0\u00a0 Another of those pesky alternate world memories.\u00a0\u00a0 No, truth to tell, I <strong>meant<\/strong> to write a whole series of Gray Alys stories, I really did, I even began a second and penned a few of the opening pages&#8230; but one day I put it aside and I never got back to it.\u00a0\u00a0 In the end I only wrote one Gray Alys story.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the Lost Lands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And now the story is coming to the big screen.\u00a0\u00a0 Paul W.S. Anderson, director of <strong><em>Monster Hunter, Pompeii,<\/em><\/strong> and several <strong><em>Resident Evils<\/em><\/strong>, will helm the film.\u00a0\u00a0 Milla Jovovich will star as Gray Alys, with Dave Bautista of <strong><em>Guardians of the Galax<\/em><\/strong>y as Boyce, who leads her into the Lost Lands.\u00a0 German film director Constantin Werner, who first optioned the story and tried to get the film made for years,\u00a0 will be among the producers.<\/p>\n<p>And who knows?\u00a0\u00a0 If the movie is a big hit, maybe there will be sequels, and Gray Alys will finally get her series after all.<\/p>\n<p>(So many years have passed, I no longer recall why I never finished that second story.\u00a0\u00a0 I loved the character.\u00a0 Still do.\u00a0\u00a0 And there were secrets I meant to reveal in those unwritten stories, and a whole complex backstory, and and and&#8230; sigh.\u00a0 Where do the years go?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I cannot seem to keep out of the news these days.
