{"id":6441,"date":"2020-09-04T10:00:39","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T16:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=6441"},"modified":"2020-09-04T11:47:37","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T17:47:37","slug":"stuff-to-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2020\/09\/04\/stuff-to-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Stuff to Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I write most days, sometimes into the evenings.<\/p>\n<p>At night, after supper, I read, watch television, or screen movies (I used to love <strong><em>going to<\/em><\/strong> the movies, since the best place to see a film is in a theatre with an audience around you, but the pandemic has put an end to that for the nonce).<\/p>\n<p>A couple of things I have really enjoyed lately&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Parris and I binged on HBO&#8217;s adaptation of Philip Pullman&#8217;s HIS DARK MATERIALS when I was back in Santa Fe, and loved it.\u00a0\u00a0 Gorgeous production, great cast (loved Lin-Manuel as the aeronaut), and <em><strong>SO<\/strong><\/em> much better than the feature film.\u00a0\u00a0 Plus armored bears.\u00a0\u00a0 Can&#8217;t go wrong with armored bears.\u00a0 The world needs more armored bears.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All the daemons are cool too. \u00a0 (Hate that damn monkey). \u00a0 If you&#8217;re a Pullman fan, give this a look.\u00a0 And if you&#8217;re not, watch it anyway, it may make you a Pullman fan.<\/p>\n<p>And for something completely different, there&#8217;s BLINDED BY THE LIGHT, a lovely little feel-good film (based on a true story) about a Pakistani kid in Luton, England who becomes the world&#8217;s biggest Bruce Springsteen fan. \u00a0 I think I&#8217;ve seen this one four times already.\u00a0 Every time the shift changes and a new minion arrives at my fortress of solitude, I watch it again so they can see it. \u00a0 When I am feeling down, this one brings me back up. \u00a0 The Boss knows all the secrets of life&#8230; but, hey, he&#8217;s from Jersey! \u00a0 The music canNOT be beat, and I like some of the choices the filmmakers made, like the lyrics coming up on screen. \u00a0 With rare exceptions, I am not usually a big fan of musicals&#8230; but this one rocks.\u00a0 (If it even counts as a musical).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I write most days, sometimes into the evenings.
