{"id":5711,"date":"2019-09-12T10:59:20","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T16:59:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=5711"},"modified":"2019-09-11T23:11:40","modified_gmt":"2019-09-12T05:11:40","slug":"at-the-irish-film-institute-with-robby-the-robot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2019\/09\/12\/at-the-irish-film-institute-with-robby-the-robot\/","title":{"rendered":"At the Irish Film Institute with Robby the Robot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the highlights of my time in Dublin was my visit to Altair IV, courtesy of the kind folks at the Irish Film Institute.\u00a0 The IFI has an impressive facility there in Temple Bar, and as part of the celebrations of worldcon, they invited me to present one of my favorite films, and speak about why I loved it.\u00a0\u00a0 I was delighted to do so.<\/p>\n<p>No one who knows me or has read this blog for long will be even remotely surprised by the movie I chose: the MGM science fiction film, FORBIDDEN PLANET, from 1956, a classic whose influence on all the SF films and television shows that followed was profound.\u00a0\u00a0 Starring Leslie Nielsen, Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, and Robby the Robot.<\/p>\n<p>((I couldn&#8217;t bring Robby with me to Dublin, alas, but I did bring Commander J.J.
