{"id":5468,"date":"2019-05-19T08:01:51","date_gmt":"2019-05-19T14:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=5468"},"modified":"2019-05-13T16:02:34","modified_gmt":"2019-05-13T22:02:34","slug":"more-stuff-more-nonsense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2019\/05\/19\/more-stuff-more-nonsense\/","title":{"rendered":"More Stuff, More Nonsense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aside from the idiocy on the internet, what else has been going on of late?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I went to LA to moderate the Q&amp;A at the premiere of the new TOLKIEN biopic in Westwood.\u00a0 The picture is lovely, by the way, and I had a great time.\u00a0\u00a0 Got to meet Nicholas Hoult and the lovely Lily Collins, the stars of the film, as well as director Dome Karukoski.\u00a0\u00a0 Afterwards I flew home to Santa Fe, and we did the New Mexico premiere at the Jean Cocteau.<\/p>\n<p>The JCC followed that up with two nights of magic, comedy, and juggling featuring Ben Seidman and Marcus Monroe.\u00a0 Wonderful shows.\u00a0\u00a0 The audience had a great time, howling and laughing.\u00a0\u00a0 Ben is a great magician and very funny, Marcus the juggler is hilarious, and the two of them together make for a helluva evening.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5470\" src=\"http:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/c9700124-409f-4a4c-84eb-0e5bcf8b5a5d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/c9700124-409f-4a4c-84eb-0e5bcf8b5a5d.jpg 605w, https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/c9700124-409f-4a4c-84eb-0e5bcf8b5a5d-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While I was at the JCC, of course, my staff forced me to descend into the basement and sign books for a couple of hours.\u00a0\u00a0 So if you are looking for autographed copies of FIRE &amp; BLOOD, A GAME OF THRONES, or any of my other titles, check out the JCC website, they have plenty of stock once again&#8230; while it lasts.\u00a0 And lots of signed books by the other writers who have appeared at the theatre as well.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, speaking of FIRE &amp; BLOOD&#8230; very pleased to learn that it has been nominated for a Locus Award by the readers of LOCUS magazine, the Publisher&#8217;s Weekly of SF and fantasy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a finalist in the &#8220;Best Collection&#8221; category:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"67tHw4Xbjf\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/locusmag.com\/2019\/05\/2019-locus-awards-finalists\/\">2019 Locus Awards Finalists<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe title=\"&#8220;2019 Locus Awards Finalists&#8221;
