{"id":4995,"date":"2018-10-26T16:24:28","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T22:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/?p=4995"},"modified":"2018-10-11T16:29:43","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T22:29:43","slug":"nightflyers-coming-your-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgerrmartin.com\/notablog\/2018\/10\/26\/nightflyers-coming-your-way\/","title":{"rendered":"NIGHTFLYERS Coming Your Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NIGHTFLYERS, the new SyFy series based on my 1980 novella of the same name, is heading for your home screens soon.<\/p>\n<p>SyFy has just announced that they will be rolling out the show on DECEMBER 2, on all platforms.\u00a0\u00a0 Netflix will follow.<\/p>\n<p>A new trailer has also been unveiled.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wijll0ZlAxQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I saw the first episode on my recent visit to LA, after the Emmy Awards (for anyone who wasn&#8217;t watching &#8212; we WON).\u00a0\u00a0 Yes, there are significant differences from my novella.\u00a0\u00a0 I always knew that would be the case; there was no way the novella, which has a very definite ending, could translate to a multi-season series.\u00a0\u00a0 On its own terms, though, the show is very well made; the sets and effects look gorgeous, and there&#8217;s a terrific, talented cast, and a story that even I cannot predict.\u00a0 And of course, as I have said before, it was a thrill for me to finally see Melantha Jhirl portrayed\u00a0 the way I wrote her.<\/p>\n<p>The show is pretty scary too.\u00a0 Make no mistake, this is as much horror as it is science fiction.\u00a0 By design.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230; check it out on Netflix or SyFy and make up your own minds.\u00a0\u00a0 (You&#8217;ll do that anyway, I know.\u00a0\u00a0 My readers are like that).<\/p>\n<p>For all the details of the rollout plan, go to https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/nightflyers-syfy-sets-multi-platform-170016282.html &#8212; or\u00a0 your favorite TV news sources on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>(And for those who want to check out my original story, signed copies are available from the bookstore at the Jean Cocteau Cinema).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NIGHTFLYERS, the new SyFy series based on my 1980 novella of the same name, is heading for your home screens soon.
