Casting Wild Cards

No, no, sorry, no news about the Wild Cards television shows being developed by UCP for Hulu.   Except, well… some scripts have been written, and we’re all very excited.  Our fingers are crossed.   Toes too.

Meanwhile, however, it is never too early to play the casting game.   Even writers are powerless to resist.   Witness this video, of interviews made two years ago in Santa Fe, when the development process was just beginning.

I’ve been hoping for this to happen for so long that I’m having difficulty not bouncing off the walls at the excitements of seeing it finally coming to be. I’m in the same state I was in when GOT was announced for HBO and casting fever for that show hit the westeros.org forums!

I thought you were going to re-post the April Fools video.
Re-thinking about it, Greg Rikaart would do a fine Jonathan “Bugsy” Hive

  • Uncle B says:

I think Summer Glau should be in it. She should be in everything. There is something magic about her that made Firefly that little bit more special for me.

Presumable the Sleeper could be played by a whole host of people, could be an interesting way to have a host of cameos from actors the production mightn’t be able to otherwise afford.

    • Richard says:

I love this idea! He could be Idris Elba one week and Danny DeVito the next! I doubt either of them are lining up for Wild Cards, but if it’s a success, by series three or four it might be possible…

Dr Tachyon has to be played by James Callis. I’d read the Wild Card anthologies before I can across him, but he clicked as soon as I saw him.

I love this series, I’m currently at book #5. I guess (judging by the quantity and diversity of the characters in the series) that it will be a very demanding and well-thought process. Let’s hope for the best. Thanks for The Great and Powerful Turtle, it is one of my favorites.

  • CharleyT says:

Because George is involved I’m interested in reading the Wild Cards series, but I just don’t know if I should attempt it. I may just wait for the show and let that make my mind up.

George, can you believe the Jets’ luck?! First, that debacle of a game last Sunday and now Sam D has the kissing disease!! He’ll probably be out until after the bye. What the heck?! Only the Jets….

I’d love to submit a few of my non-mainstream actors for this. Are they looking for new faces?

I’ve been a reader since the beginning. My dog-eared copy of volume 1 is a treasure. The problem with “the casting game” is not knowing what era. Are they going to stay true to the timeline of the original books, or start them over with the alien virus hitting in 2020?
I’d love to see either Masi Oka or Greg Grunberg (Heroes) as the Turtle (or possibly Rainn Wilson). It’s mandatory that Zelazny’s Croyd is a series regular (with appropriate actor changes). Captain Trips should be Robert Caradine – seriously, take a look at him on IMDB. I’d love to see Nathan Fillion somewhere (maybe Yeoman?).
No matter what era, please keep Croyd and Turtle and Trips. To me they’ve always been my favs.

Our intent is to keep the Wild Cards timeline as it is in the books, starting with Jetboy and the release of the virus on September 15, 1946. However, that may be backstory rather than current narrative. We are still in the throes of development, so there’s a lot yet to be determined.

  • Jephor says:

I want to see Gravemold/Black Shadow played by Oscar Isaac!

  • Jerry Taylor says:

It’s one of my favorite shared world novel series; and, I agree it should focus on Joker Town. Set it in Fort Freak? Cop shows are always popular, so showing the officers interacting with Aces, Joker Aces, Joker, Deuces, and Normals could leads to all manner of story lines.

    • Scott H says:

Honestly…. A police procedural is not only ‘Hollywood friendly’ but is a great way to introduce the world….

But if they’re starting at jet boy…. I guess flashbacks work as a framing device
